Enjoy the School Ball
A reminder of important details.
Tomorrow evening is the highlight of the year for many of our students. The culmination of hours of planning and preparation, it is the opportunity for our students to attend a formal event and to enjoy all the trappings of such an event. For our staff attending, it is also a highlight, most attending are Tutor Teachers who have been with our students for many years.
As mentioned in the last Panui of the term, we met with students at a special assembly to discuss the few expectations we have of them on the night. The School Ball is a high trust event, and our students respond brilliantly every year to the trust extended to them. Indeed, year after year, venues comment on the outstanding behaviour and respect shown by Massey High School students.
We discussed that their enjoyment of the night hinges on making the right decisions, decisions that are those of the young adults they are. Our expectations really come down to showing respect – respect for each other, to the school, and to the venue – and of course to enjoy the occasion.
Whilst the expectations are in line with any school event, additional conditions are put in place by the venue itself – we discussed this aspect with students attending. For those students who are taking partners from outside the school – we remind you that they are governed by the same expectations, and they will require photo ID on the night.
We also reminded students that except for medical emergency, no students or guests are permitted to leave the venue prior to the end of the event at midnight.
This is a final opportunity to remind all attending of the expectations of the conditions of entry (as found on each Ball ticket) below:
All School Balls are non-alcoholic and no drugs events. No alcohol or drugs are permitted to be brought onto The Pullman premises or consumed/taken during these events. Any such items found in the possession of a guest will be confiscated and disposed of. Accordingly, security officers will check students and partners (which may include being patted down) and any prohibited articles will be confiscated and will not be returned.
Prohibited articles include (but not limited to):
- Cigarettes
- Vape and Vape Juices
- Alcohol
- Perfume
- Chewing Gum
- Lighters
Intoxicated people will not be allowed to enter The Pullman or remain on premises.
The Pullman is a smoke-free venue.
The Pullman reserves the right to refuse entry of persons to any function. There will be a lock out time set up between the school and the venue and will be enforced.
The cloakroom will be manned while guests are arriving and departing. Students will not have access to the cloakroom whilst the function is running.
Guests will have the option of either showing contents of bags to security or getting them locked in the cloakroom for the duration of the function.
Friends of guests without tickets will not be permitted to enter the Pullman and we reserve the right to ask them to leave the premises.
Every guest must have a printed ticket which The Pullman or Massey High School staff will collect and count on arrival.
I would ask that parents and caregivers who are collecting their children at the end of the event do so promptly – members of our staff (including myself) will remain at the venue until the last student is collected – but we don’t want to wait for too long into the early hours of the morning.
With this in mind, I know that our students and staff will enjoy the evening.
