THIRD ON THE WORLD STAGEFROM LITTLE OLD MASSEY TO SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

On Tuesday, 8 September, 12 of our girls headed to Sydney to compete in the inaugural Oztag International Schools Championship.

Before the competition got underway, the team toured the NSW Rugby League facilities, getting to experience the facilities and enjoy some time together before the action began.

Then it was time to take to the field — and the girls came out firing.

They won all four pool games, finishing top of their pool:

Game 1: 2–1
Game 2: 6–1
Game 3: 5–0
Game 4: 4–3

The girls headed into the quarter finals, drawing 2–2 in an absolute nail-biter before progressing through to the semifinals.

It was there they recorded their first loss of the day, bringing their fantastic run to an end and securing a 3rd-place finish.

Even the commentator was impressed, making special mention of the “girls from New Zealand” and their ability, skill and speed throughout the competition.

A huge thank you to the NRL for supporting our team, covering the majority of the costs involved in getting the girls to Australia and providing gear for the team. We are incredibly grateful for their support and for helping make this opportunity possible.

Well done, girls — you did yourselves and Massey High School proud!
