Future law students Alvina Marsters, Maureen Reupena, Josiah Tuitama and Vaiki Ofati were selected to attend the Te Kuhunga Scholarship programme, facilitated by Meredith Connell (MC) Law.

Te Kuhunga is a programme designed to encourage and support secondary students who are interested in pursuing a career in law. The programme gives students opportunities to gain an insight into the legal profession, connect with lawyers and learn more about the pathway to studying law at university. It also provides ongoing support for students as they begin their university studies.

Our students sat in on a lawyers’ Q&A session, where they had the opportunity to ask questions and hear about the experiences of those working in the legal profession, followed by an office tour. The Te Kuhunga Scholarship offers not only a monetary gift but also mentorship and support throughout their first two years of law study at university. Scholarship recipients can also benefit from opportunities to gain work experience and spend time with their mentors in a professional legal environment.

Our students really enjoyed the day and were very grateful for the opportunity to visit MC Law, meet legal professionals and find out what working in the legal profession is really like. Experiences such as this provide our students with valuable insight into their potential future careers and help them to see what is possible as they consider their next steps beyond school.
