Notice of Full Strike by PPTA

Wednesday 20th August 2025

The PPTA (the union) has informed us about the impact of its upcoming strike, as they affect our school on Wednesday 20th August.

The union has advised our board that its member teachers at our school will be taking full strike action on that day.

The board has carefully considered the availability of non-union teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that we can’t provide normal instruction during the strike so the school will officially be closed for instruction during Wednesday 20th August.

Despite the strike Massey High School will apply for an exemption for students who are due to sit the Te Ao Haka Level 2 assessment on Wednesday 20 August as NZQA cannot move the date of that assessment.

Those students taking Te Ao Haka Level 2 will need to attend school from 11:30am to 1pm to sit their assessment. They should be in school in uniform and can leave once their assessment is completed. They should go to WHK and Ms Triggs will meet them there.

If making alternative arrangements for care is difficult, we can still supervise a small number of students if required. Please contact Elaine Curtis [email protected] to indicate if your child/children will need this.

  • School transport will not be available on the day.
  • The tuckshop will not be open on the day.

We know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike. Please be assured that student safety is our main concern.
