A Cultural Journey to the Consulate General of Japan

It was an amazing day to start with, as our Japanese Level 1 students embarked on a cultural excursion to the Consulate General of Japan. The experience was both enriching and inspiring, offering students a unique opportunity to engage with Japanese traditions and modern innovations.

Upon arrival, we were warmly and formally welcomed by Consul Matsui and his team, whose greeting set the tone for a respectful and memorable day. His presence and hospitality gave students a sense of importance and formality, mirroring the values of Japanese culture.

Inside the Consulate, students were introduced to Japan’s most advanced technology, including cutting-edge robots that showcased the country's leadership in innovation. The students were fascinated by the capabilities and lifelike interactions of the robots, gaining a glimpse into the future shaped by Japanese engineering and creativity.

Following this, we participated in a cultural workshop that focused on Japanese food, manners, and etiquette. Students learnt about various traditional Japanese dishes and the proper ways to behave at the table—such as how to use chopsticks correctly, respectful dining phrases, and the cultural significance of certain foods.

To put this knowledge into real-world practice, we concluded our visit by heading to a Japanese restaurant. There, the students applied what they had learned and demonstrated excellent Japanese table manners. It was a proud moment to see their confidence and respect in action.

This visit to the Consulate General of Japan not only deepened our students’ understanding of Japanese culture but also strengthened their appreciation for its harmony of tradition and innovation. We’re grateful for this valuable experience and the kind hospitality shown by Consul Matsui and his team.
